CURRENT EXHIBITFUR-NATURE In keeping with their commitment to exhibiting the best of handmade arts in America, Meredith Gallery is pleased to announce its exhibition of art furniture by Maryland artist Len Dougherty. FUR-NATURE: Art Furniture Inspired by Nature will open May 1, with a reception to meet the artist from 5 to 7:30 pm, and continue through June 28. Dougherty will be exhibiting one-of-a-kind works including a bed, cabinets, chairs, clocks, shelves, tables, and more. Len Dougherty worked as a cabinet maker in his early adulthood and has also used his skills to restore historic buildings. He received his formal art training at MICA and Towson University. Sixteen years ago he began building furniture of his own designs and since then has participated in numerous exhibitions at Meredith Gallery and throughout the country. This is his first solo exhibition with Meredith Gallery. "I create distinctly inspirational furniture that is functional in daily life," says Dougherty. "The soothing rhythms of nature and the transcendent beauty of wood inspire me to create pieces that will last for generations. "I build using traditional joinery with an emphasis on clean lines and clear finishes, which allow the warmth and beauty of the wood to show through. "By using exquisite veneers and original marquetry, as well as the bending of wood to create graceful curves, I ensure that each of my pieces expresses its own delightful treasure and the quintessential effectiveness of nature's design." Meredith Gallery is located at 805 N. Charles St. in Baltimore's historic Mt. Vernon neighborhood. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm, and Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm. |
